Hey there! Welcome to the Hatman Homestead. We’re the Hatmans – four people, three cats, and one ever-energetic border collie. Not too long ago, we left the city’s noise behind us and embraced the quiet (and sometimes not so quiet) life in rural Texas.

The land we’re living on isn’t just any old piece of dirt. It’s a part of our family story, a legacy stretching back over 150 years. This is the same ground my great-grandparents dug into during the depression. The same land where they planted their dreams and built a future. Now, we’re doing the same, trying our best to walk in their footsteps.
We’re city folks turned country dwellers. And boy, what a ride it’s been! Our blog is a peek into our life – from raising chickens and growing our veggies, to teaching our kids and trying to keep up with the harvest seasons. But it’s not all rosy; we’ve had our fair share of misadventures too.
We realized that homesteading is about so much more than just escaping the city life. It’s about resilience, growth, sustainability, and cherishing our roots. To make homesteading work it means constant learning, problem solving and determination.
So if you’re here, whether you’re a seasoned homesteader, a newbie with a love for the land, or just a city dweller with a curiosity for the country life, we want you to know that you’re welcome. Welcome to the Hatman Homestead – it’s not just a blog, it’s an adventure, it’s our life, and we’re excited to share it with you.
